Two rededication services will be held on Tuesday 17 October 2017. The first for Rifleman William Dickinson Evans of The King’s (Liverpool Regiment) at 1100 hours in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s Blauwepoort Farm Cemetery, Belgium.
Rifleman Evans was originally buried in this Cemetery but his grave subsequently lost or destroyed due to fighting. His new headstone commemoration will show ‘Buried Elsewhere in this Cemetery’. His family will be attending and regimental support will be provided by the antecedent Regiment The Duke of Lancaster.
Later that day the Rededication Service for Private John Anderson of the 4th Battalion Gordon Highlanders will be held at 1400 hours in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s Birr Cross Roads Cemetery, Belgium.
Originally buried as an unknown soldier of the 4th Battalion Gordon Highlanders he was killed in action on 28 May 1915, but through research his grave has now been identified. It is hoped his family will attend. Regimental support will be provided by the antecedent Regiment The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
The services have been organised by the Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre and will be attended by senior staff of the British Defence Section, Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), Regimental representatives and local dignitaries. The CWGC will be providing the headstones and maintain the graves in perpetuity.
