NL: 26 oktober 2023, Tyne Cot Cemetery, herinwijdingsdienst voor 2nd Lt. JAMES FERRIS van het 16th. Bn. The Highland Infantry (att. 97th MTB).
James werd geboren op 13 oktober 1888 in Glasgow, zoon van William en Euphemia Ferris. Hij was fruitverkoper voor zijn militaire dienst. Aanvankelijk bij het 3rd (training) Bn. The Highland Light Infantry werd hij ingedeeld bij het 16th Bn. van het regiment. In een actie om de Duitsers weg te jagen van de heuvelrug van Passendale, toen bij de 97th Trench Mortar Battery ingedeeld, leed hun bunker een voltreffer waarbij Lt. Ferris en verschillende anderen op 2 december 1917 werden gedood. Zijn 'onbekende' stoffelijk overschot werd na de oorlog werd begraven op Tyne Cot Cemetery. Nu is hij formeel geïdentificeerd, niet langer onbekend of verloren, maar bekend en geëerd.

De ceremonie werd geleid door Revd.David Jeal, aalmoezenier van de Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Bn. The Royal Regiment of Scotland. Mannen van dit regiment waren aanwezig om hun respect te betuigen aan hun gesneuvelde voorganger. Britse en Belgische militaire en civiele autoriteiten waren aanwezig, evenals om toegewijde mensen te herdenken. Daags voordien betuigden de militairen van het 2nd Bn. The Royal Regiment of Scotland (Royal Highland Fusiliers),alle eer bij de begrafenis van L.Sgt. Brand en de herinwijdingsceremonie voor Pte. Keill. De ceremonie werd georganiseerd door de MOD & JCCC. Zoals altijd zorgde de CWGC voor de nieuwe grafsteen en zij zullen er ook blijvend zorg voor dragen.

James was born on 13 October 1888 in Glasgow, son of William and Euphemia Ferris. He was a fruit seller for his military service. Initially with the 3rd (training) Bn. The Highland Light Infantry he was assigned to the 16th Bn. of the regiment. In an action to drive the Germans away from the Passchendaele ridge, then assigned to the 97th Trench Mortar Battery, their bunker suffered a direct hit that killed Lt. Ferris and several others on December 2, 1917. His 'unknown' remains were buried at Tyne Cot Cemetery after the war. Now he is formally identified, no longer unknown or lost, but known and honoured.

The ceremony was led by Revd. David Jeal, Chaplain of the Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Bn. The Royal Regiment of Scotland. Men of the regiment were present to pay their respects to their fallen predecessor. British and Belgian military and civilian authorities were present, as well as to commemorate dedicated people. The day before, the military of  the 2nd Bn. The Royal Regiment of Scotland (Royal Highland Fusiliers), payed respect at the funeral of L. Sgt Brand and at the rededication ceremony for Pte. Keill. The ceremony was organised by the MOD & JCCC. The new headstone was made by the CWGC who will care for it in perpetuity.
