Visit the Passchendaele Museum this winter

This year, the Passchendaele Museum in Zonnebeke will remain open longer than usual. For the first time, visitors can also explore the museum in December and throughout the Christmas period. They will discover the renewed museum, featuring a reworked storyline and an enhanced visitor experience.

Renewed museum

In the renewed Passchendaele Museum, an adapted and more chronological storyline guides visitors step by step through the years of the war, complemented by an extensive presentation of collection pieces and personal stories.

Lifelike scenes, the reconstructed trenches, a rebuilt dugout and the immersive experience Passchendaele 1917 make the story tangible, while the free updated audio guide provides additional historical context and allows visitors to explore at their own pace.

Extend your visit in Zonnebeke

After visiting the museum, it is well worth taking some extra time to explore Zonnebeke. Wander through the castle grounds in a quiet winter atmosphere, enjoy a panoramic view of the wintry landscape from the church tower of Zonnebeke – accessible free of charge – or visit one of the nearby cemeteries. The winter season reveals the heritage landscape of the Ypres Salient in its most serene form, sometimes even under a light blanket of snow.

Throughout December, various local businesses and associations also organise winter events. More information and a full overview can be found at www.toerismezonnebeke.be.
