Ter herdenking van de Mijnenslag van Mesen die op 7 juni 1917 aanving, werd een herdenking gehouden voor de Nieuw Zeelandse soldaten die in de slag hun deel hadden. Toen 105 jaar geleden lag hun aanvalsgebied op de heuvelrug bij Mesen. Aan hun rechterflank zaten de Australiërs, links van hen de beide Ierse divisies, verderop de Britse. Hoewel deze slag niet zonder verliezen was, wordt hij wel vaak als (een van ) de meest succesvolle van de 1e wereldoorlog gezien. 
De plechtigheid  werd o.a. bijgewoond door de Ambassadeur van Nieuw Zeeland H. E. Diana Reaich en burgemeester Sandy Evrard van Mesen, Nieuw Zeelandse Militairen, de Militaire Commandant van de Provincie West Vlaanderen, leden van de New Zealand Pilgrimage Trust en het Passchendaele 1917 Genootschap en door mensen die de herdenking zijn toegewijd.

To commemorate the Messines Mine Battle that started June 7th, 1917 a remembrance ceremony took place for the New Zealand soldiers who were engaged in this battle. Then, 105 years ago, their attack zone was situated on the ridge in front of Messines. On their right were the Australians, on their left both the Irish divisions, further on the British. Though not without casualties, this battle is often regarded as (one of ) the most successful one of the Great War. The ceremony was attended, amongst others, by the New Zealand Ambassador H.E. Diana Reaich and Mr. Sandy Evrard,  the mayor of Messines, New Zealand military, the Military Commander of  West Flanders, members of the New Zealand Pilgrimage Trust and the Passchendaele 1917 Society and by people who are dedicated to the remembrance of the fallen.
