Commemoration of the Battle of 1914 - Ramskapelle - 19/10/2013
19/10/2013 - Ramskapelle
Please find below some pictures of the commemoration of the Battle of Ramskapelle (now part of Nieuwpoort). In 1914 the German attack was stopped here by French and Belgian forces. By doing so, they prevented that the German army could move forward to the North Sea Ports.
Service in the church
The Last Post
And the national anthems of France and Belgium.
The French troops on the square.
Greeting the standard.
Address by Dries Claeys on the events that happened at Ramskapelle in October 1914.
Laying wreaths.
Again the national anthems of Belgium and France.
Many flags on the houses.
Marching towards the old windmill.
Then everybody marched towards the Belgian military cemetery.
