- Sint-Juliaan
On Sunday, 14 September 2025, The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada held a commemoration at
The Brooding Soldier in Sint-Juliaan. They commemorated the victims of their regiment during the First World War, more specifically those who fell during the first gas attack, which was used for the first time at that time.
The Black Watch of Canada is making a ten-day trip through France and Belgium. They are following in the footsteps of the 13th, 42nd and 73rd battalions of the CEF (Royal Highlanders of Canada). These battalions marched from Dunkirk to Limburg on 18 September 1944, passing by The Brooding Soldier.
After their visit to the Westhoek, they continue their commemorative journey to Brussels and Limburg.
