Canadian commemoration at R.E. Farm Cemetery - Wijtschate - 07/05/2025
07/05/2025 - Wijtschate
On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, members of the Halton Regional Police Service, including the Pipes and Drums and Honour Guard, were joined by Chief Stephen J. Tanner in a solemn Service of Remembrance honoring the life and sacrifice of James W. Johnstone, a Canadian soldier who gave his life in the Great War.
The service included a visit to Private Johnstone’s gravesite, with musical tributes, spoken reflections and a full Act of Remembrance.
James W. Johnstone is remembered in the book
Somewhere in Flanders: Letters from the Front
by Canadian author Heather McBriarty, whose work has helped ensure that his story - and the sacrifice of many others - is never forgotten.
The ceremony took place at
RE. Farm Cemetery
at Wijtschate at 0900hrs and lasted approximately one hour.
