Commemoration 110th anniversary of the first gas attack - Sint-Juliaan - 22/04/2025
On Tuesday 22 April 2025, the city of Ypres and the Langemark-Poelkapelle local council jointly commemorated the 110th anniversary of the first mass use of gas during the First World War. The ceremonies recalled the dramatic events of 22 April 1915, when chlorine gas was first widely used as a weapon of mass destruction.

The programme included ceremonies at the Cross of Reconciliation in Steenstraete (4.30pm) and at the Brooding Soldier monument in Langemark-Poelkapelle (5.30pm). The day ended with a special Last Post under the Menin Gate in Ypres at 8pm.
