Nieuwpoort was about the middle of the line held by the British XV Corps in June-November, 1917; and on this line, from Nieuwpoort Northwards, the attack known as the German Attack on Nieuwpoort fell on the 10th July, 1917. There are 70 Commonwealth burials of the 1914-18 war, 3 of which are unidentified. There are 31 burials of the 1939-45 war, 4 of which are unidentified, commemorated in this site.
The Commonwealth plots cover an area of 329 square metres and is enclosed by stone curbs. This cemetery is not an open site and access is limited by normal cemetery opening hours.
