The ‘Ossuaire’ contains the remains of 5,294 dead, with only 57 names recorded. The mass grave was not created until after the First World War. It is believed that most of the soldiers buried in this mass grave were killed during the German spring offensive (9-29 April 1918).
The site has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since September 2023.
